The Journal of Rural and Community Development (JRCD) is pleased to announce the release of Volume 8, Issue 3. This is a special issue titled ‘Rural Geography – Rural Development.’ It is the largest collection of papers in an issue since the JRCD began in 2005. The special issue editors are Doug Ramsey, Jesse Abrams, Jill Clark, and Nick Evans. The first paper, co-authored by the special editors outlines the context and content of the 21 papers included in this special issue.

Over the past few months, the JRCD has face a number of technical and personnel issues. We still have one more 2013 issue to publish. This is a special issue titled ‘Community Impacts from Large Oil and Natural Gas Ventures in Rural and Remote Areas’ will be published in April 2014. Soon after, two more issues (2014) will be published: a general issue and a special issue on agri-tourism. This will take place throughout the spring 2014. We thank everyone for their patience.

The JRCD acknowledges funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada through their 'Aid to Scholarly Publications' programme. This assists us in improving the review and publication process. Thanks to everyone for their support and patience as the JRCD works through growing pains.

The JRCD is published by the Rural Development Institute (RDI) at Brandon University. RDI was established in 1989 as an academic research centre and a leading source of information on issues affecting rural communities in western Canada and elsewhere. The JRCD benefitted with intitial funding from the Manitoba Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives. For more information, please visit: http://www.brandonu.ca/rdi.
